About Louie Cowan

Louie Cowan is an award winning local short filmmaker. In 2000, he created Red Key Productions to use art to explore themes pertinent to his own heart, and with the goal to make films that open a door of understanding into the complexities of the human condition. "The Note", and "A Cold Blood" are the latest of five short films he has directed.

Last year "Turkey Day" was awarded Best Short Film at the Wilmington Delaware Hearts & Minds International film festival, "Safe House", and "The Squirrel Militia" were filmed in Columbus & Delaware, Ohio before that.

He has acted in local feature films "The Courier", "Horrors of War", "Johnny Appleweed", "Space Walker", "Death4Told" (starring Margot Kidder and Tom Savini), "Green Card Fever", and numerous short films, commercials and industrials.

Sailing the seas on the Achille Lauro and Symphony international cruise lines, as well as the Spirit of Chicago, he has performed as a singer and cabaret star. Louie has played leading roles in professional musical theatre in his home country of South Africa, and was twice nominated for a Vita Award (which is the South African equivalent of the Tony Award).

Career highlights include playing Don in Athol Fugards "People are Living There", Jinx in "Forever Plaid", Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and Littlechap in "Stop the world I want to get off", for which he won the Cape Times Best Actor in a Musical Award.
